This blogspot has been created to exclusively show my nude paintings, both male and female. I have worked directly from the model for a number of years, and I also teach life-drawing.

Credit crunch and what it means to me, a humble artist!
According to this morning's news, 27 December '08, the UK's economy is set to shrink to a similar level of 60 years ago! Just before the Second World War! If that's the case, me and my family are definately going to starve! If I was on the breadline in the boom years, then surely there's no way I can survive the apparent catastrophy awaiting us in 2009. I've yet to explain this to the family. On the other hand, maybe that small elite buyers of Damian Hirt's works will have to come down market? Maybe all those hedgefund managers and bankers will be looking for "more value for money" paintings rather than spending millions, no, billions, of other people's money simply to try and out-do each other in the auction rooms. Then jet around the world in private jets to boast about their latest acquisition before locking it up in a ban vault. Another thing that puzzles me: why, when I certainly knew and I'm no financial expert - didn't the experts who run our economies also didn't know that the "...end of the world (in econmic terms..." was fast coming? It just wasn't possible for the economy to boom the way it did, over such a long period of time and with personal debt out of control. So, sadly, I've come to the conclusion that there is going to be a least a year of belt tightening, lots of job losses, lots of high street names disappearing. And what of the art market? More high street galleries will close, more artists will have to take on extra incomes from non-art related work.
